Foot Drop is a condition characterized by weakness in the muscles and tendons of the lower leg and foot, resulting in difficulty lifting the foot to take a normal step. This often leads to the foot being dragged when attempting to walk normally, limiting mobility and participation in daily activities. Individuals with Foot Drop may raise the thigh higher than usual, resembling climbing stairs, in order to help clear the foot from dragging on the floor. WalkAide® aims to assist patients in resuming a more normal life by addressing the challenges associated with Foot Drop, enabling improved mobility and daily functioning.
The WalkAide® System is a state-of-the-art medical device that uses Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) to improve walking ability in individuals with Foot Drop caused by upper motor neuron injuries or conditions such as:
With its unique patented design, WalkAide is a tilt sensor functional electrical stimulator that promotes a more natural balanced and efficient gait (walk).
The WalkAide system utilizes patented tilt sensor technology and functional electrical stimulation (FES) to analyze the movement of the leg and stimulate the appropriate nerves, prompting the foot to lift with every step during swing phase. The gentle electrical impulses produced by walk aide activate the muscles to raise the foot at the appropriate time during the swing phase to prevent foot drag and tripping. The system consists of a battery operated walk aide, 2 electrodes and electrode leads held on just below the knee by a cuff.
